Waypoints!!! Quick Questing! (Eq2 betrayal)
March 15th, 2011One thing not mentioned in the player handbook (may have been added as a feature after printing) is the ability to use Waypoints. Waypoints are located under the EQII menu in game, and are SUPER for finishing quests quickly! I gained 2 levels (7-9) in Scout in under an hour. Waypoints will show you all the zone gates, shops, and significant locations in a zone (doesn’t work for dungeons or adventure areas.. Sorry!).
Click on EQ2 button, click on Waypoints, select the gate or shop you need to finish your quest, and follow the gold trail… yes it’s that easy. It’s also a great way to see what zones lead to what other zones. For example, it appears that all zones lead to Qeynos Harbor, so running there first gets you about anywhere you need to go quickly.
If you’re a Scout, it get’s even better… use Track and select NPCs to quickly find the people you need to talk to to finish a quest.
Good luck and Happy Adventuring!
Isle Of Refuge – High Chieftain Kryx – Great Loots (Everquest 2 outfitter)
March 14th, 2011Before leaving the Island of Refuge, make sure you head up the High Chieftain’s tree and take out his posse and Kryx himself.
After killing Kryx you receive a treasure chest full of goodies. Namely, a Gruttooth Circlet, an Iodizite Shell Shield, and a tome of the Artisan Merchant’s Armor Volume 7.
I was able to solo these guys rather easily being maxed out on the island, and with ranged attacks as a mage. Not recommended for anyone under level 6.
If you’re a mage, a good strategy to use solo is to immediately target Kryx and cast Arcane Bindings on him followed by a quick Static Pulse. This will keep him locked down for a bit while you focus on his minions. Ensure to use the Heroic Opportunity Granted to you at this level (Cast Arcane Augur, Followed by two Lightning Bursts). This will help you kill his helpers quickly, and leave plenty of energy to spare when taking out Kryx himself.
The best part about this, is after killing this little tribe, if you run all the way to the top of the incline just around the corner from their spawn spot you can repeat it all over again. Attempting to confirm if the same drops can be acquired multiple times. Will update within 15 minutes.
Farming a named that drops masters at times (EQ2 Map Updater)
March 11th, 2011Hey, this is especially gewd for the summoner class, cuz this drops one of the best weapons in the game for summoners (40% pet heal)
ok, so first, ya need to be pretty high level i say bout 56+ (im guessing on this, cuz i found this out at level 60) zone into living tombs from sinking sands. run down the sewer line, and jump down into the water, there usually is a group of vvv zombies, easy solo, but can get annoyoing. after you clear them out, there shold be a little tablet of stone in front of you, and just beyond that, there shold be a solo group of zombies, kill those and stand where they spawn, so the vvv zombies dont spawn on you while you are in battle.
to spawn the named (its a triggered spawn, but not always spawns, sometimes you just get a PH) you need to kill 5 sets of mummy/zombie things, all solo level 51ish, the first group is right where you should be standing (a tad bit beyond the tablet of stone with writing) if you were to look straight at the steps where a door is, the gruops of zombies are at your 9 o’clock, 10:30ish, 1:30ish, 3 o’clock directions, you DO NOT need to kill the 2 ghost market enforcers. so after you kill all of the groups of mummies, wait a sec and from the doors (between the 2 market enforcers) there will either spawn 2 mini ghosts, or the named…like tradeskeeper anun or sumthin, he is fairly easy to kill, and will always drop a chest. not a master chest, but a chest, after you kill him, it will take roughly 5 min for the 5 gruops of zombies to respawn which from there you can start of your process of killing.
be aware: when you are killing, dont kill too close to the steps, or wandering zombies will agro (heroic zombies) and dont kill too close to the pool cuz the gruop of zombies there will agro (solo)
Soloing to 20 Tricks (Everquest 2 stats)
March 10th, 2011Just some thoughts about soloing up to 20.
Up to 15 or so just do quests. Seriously, I’d barely left the city at 15. You need to stay organised to minimise running around. There are a couple of good quest sites/lists out there. Rewards, money and XP all really add up from low level quests.
Most classes seem to be able to solo OK. I’m a Summoner who are pretty good at it if you keep your pet upgraded (anything under adept 1 is pretty useless).
The single biggest disadvantage to soloing is that you tend to fight ‘solo’ mobs. These give less XP (no encounter bonus) and very rarely drop chests. This puts you at a huge disadvantage to groups who are getting better XP and better loot (although grouping has other disadvantages). Once you get to the high teens XP off solo mobs slows to a trickle, I mean really slow you can barely see the XP bar move.
The solution to this is to avoid solo mobs. Avoid them like the plague. The time to XP to loot just isn’t worth it. Instead go after group mobs.
Group mobs tend to come in groups of three or four normal enemies, two single arrow up (^) enemies or one double arrow up enemy (^^). Of these I try for the single ^^ ones wherever possible. They’re tough fights, but a single enemy is much easier to handle, and especially ecape from. Because they’re so tough I try to stick to greens. I can solo blue ^^’s but they take a lot out of me and hlaf the time I endup running away.
Non aggresive targets are nice, but most of the group mobs tend to be aggresive once you get out of the city. So you need to look for places with somewhere safe to pull to and/or easy to zone/escape from.
Things I’ve spent time hunting while soloing (Qeynos side)
Skeletons on the island north of the city
Dankfur Gnolls on the island north of the lighthouse
Small Life Leeches near the entrance to Stormhold
The tough deer in the woods behind the Claymore statue
I find the experience still comes at a reasonable speed. However, one of the downsides is that these fights take a lot out of me and I have a fair bit of downtime. Nothing like EQ1! but I can’t fight continuously. Don’t forget good food and drink though. High level food and drink gives a huge regen boost to power and health. It’s really worth the money.
