Freeport Tier 3 Resources (Monk Eq2)

April 25th, 2008

Having hit level 20 I was daunted by what was to come next, my skills had easily preceded the tier 2 resources found in the world of Norrath. I had been happily crafting at tier 2 but was no longer getting the experience required to level, to make matters worse I had been buying most of my raw materials and all my harvesting skills were appalling low. I also had been using the strategy found in another MPS tutorial of buying cheap raw materials at the broker to repeatedly complete the wholesaler task giving me a nice profit.

I managed to review the situation and with a little effort yield the power of my new level band and gain even more profit than before.

Resource Skills:

If you had followed my fishing tutorial you’ll know I have a high fishing skill, when I got to level 20 it was about 105. All my other skills were in the 20′s, shocking I know. All those tutorials saying do not leave the Island of Refuge till your skills are high are right. But, I managed to get them up. All in all it took me about 3 hours of running about to get the mining and foresting skills up to 40 which is needed for tier 2 resourcing. I accomplished this in the Graveyard in Freeport area, I just worked up a circuit where I ran around the same route pressing tab to see any resources spawning. The reason why it took so long was all the other people doing the same, I would say, perservere. The results definitely pay off stick with it and you should all your skills up to 40.

Now moving into the commonlands it is much easier to get your skills up to the required 90 needed for tier 3 resource gathering. Theres alot less players hunting for the resources and theres alot more of them spawning. In particular the cowfields near the Crossroads area yielded alot of resources.

All in all it took me about 3 nights of casual play to get all my skills up, was a real bummer extremely tedious but I did it. If your an artisan sooner or later you are going to have to get your skills up, because people selling higher level resources on the broker are charging ridiculous prices.

Tier 3 Nektulos Forest:

After hitting 90 on each of the harvesting skills I rushed straight to Nektulos forest, the Thundering Steppes is also a tier 3 resource area but I have not yet explored it much. I had also got another wholesaler task asking me for 15 belladonna roots. Having no idea what the money reward was for it I decided to harvest the resources instead of paying 4s per root on the broker.

Note; I am a level 13 cleric at the time of writing this tutorial, and manage to navigate Nektulos Forest well even though it is designed for level 20+. Just showing that it can be done, its more risky and alot more hassle but if you are purely focusing on crafting and gaining profit like me you do not spend much time adventuring leveing, just learn the map layout and be wary of enemies.

Learning the layout of Nek was the hardest part, however I quickly learnt the enemy spawn locations and resource locations well. Most of the resources lie in the middle of the map well north of the entrance from the Commonlands. After gathering 15 belladonna roots (taking about 15-30 minutes) I headed back to the wholesaler in Freeport. To my delight the wholesaler rewarded me with 48s. Thus, I now buy on the broker if the resources are going for 2s or less and if higher i just go resource gathering in Nektulos. Crafting any other tier 3 resources i gather sells at the NPC merchant for 4s each. Thus, giving a 4 times profit than that of tier 2.

Conclusion:

If you are in the same situation like me, you are going to have to knuckle down and up those gathering skills if you want to yield the most from tier 3 level 20+ the sooner you start the more of a headstart you will have when it comes to tier 4 resource gathering! Currently casually playing now making around 4 gold a day and its not engulfing my life! Yipee.
