How To Make Money Crafting, Especially Scholar (EQ2 Artisan)

September 2nd, 2008

I'm a level 14 Scholar and made a fair amount of money in crafting, so I disagree when people say you cannot make money doing low level crafts.
Other threads already touched on the basics on how to craft, so I won't repeat them, just remember to get all of your gathering/mining/foresting skills HIGH HIGH HIGH.

So here is how it goes.

At level 1-10, the best thing for you to do is to grind through the level quickly, pretty much nothing other than 6 slot bags (which is prestine condition and quite difficult for a low level artisan to do) can make you any money, however, it is very easy to break at least even.

1-3 craft all of your raw resources, tin, roots, lead, malachite, after you are done with these, don't waste your time to gather more.

3-6 buy your basic items from the vendor, for example, buy shaped tin bars from the vendor, which is 29c, and make tin studs, or tin pommel, and sell it back at the vendor, you loose some money but very little (1-5c lose)

6-10 You can make more complicated items now, stick to bags, which take 1 tin buckel (1 tin bar+fossil temper+coal), 1 raw hide plate, 1 raw hide cord, and filament. Get used to the receipe tree because from now on you will need to craft items based on previously crafted items. Now when you start out you will probably make only crude items, THAT IS FINE, dont' stop your progress just because it's crude quality, you need all the xp it can give you. Also, even a crude bg has 4 slots which you can resell back to vendor or you can use for yourself.

so now you are level ten, talk to the certifier (ironforge in Qeuynos harbor and get your crafting class, you can choose between Scholar, Outfitter, and Craftsman), do one more item, you will level up. You should be able to grind through level 1-10 with under 40 silver and 4 hours.

NOW THIS IS WHERE IT GETS INTERESTING.

All the crafting classes are interdependent, which means if I am a Scholar, I cannot make any high level spells without the help of a craftsman who can make maple quill and calum paper for me. Yes you can learn other classes' skills but you will need a craftsman friend to buy you the book from his exclusive guild, and you will only be able to learn skills lower than your primary profession level. (level 12 Scholar can learn level 10 craftsman, depending on how high your skills are).

Right now the servers are saturated with Scholars and outfitters, because everyone wants to make spells and armor, and no craftsman! (Who wants to make food and funiture right?)

Wrong. If you can figure out the interdependency between classes, you can make a fortune.

For example, choose to be a craftsman, offer to make maple quills and callum paper for scholars. In a fair world you will trade the items for the components you need (stroma oil, eolith temper, stuff that you cannot make), but since there are way too many scholars on the server, you can usualy trade on a 1:3 basis.
Use that money or extra items to make the high level items you need, or sell them back on the market for 1s+ each.

These are the items which are in demand:

Scholar:
Iron gual ink, Stroma oil, Stroma resin, Stroma wash, All of these take tuber to make, they can fetch you 1s each, Iron ink can fetch up to 3s. (They cost about 15c to make if you harvest the tubers).
Eolith temper, takes iron to make, need for aromor for the outfitter, 1-2s each.

Craftsman:
Maple quills (maple and stroma wash), callum paper. These are very much in demand for all the Scholars because they need these to make high level spells.

Outfitter:
Iron Spikes and others. Iron spikes are needed for Runes.

If you choose to sell these components on the market, they will be gone VERY FAST. Yes it is a rip off but since this game doesn't have an established market, you can rip people off.

If you decide to make finished products you can make even more money.

As a Scholar, after I gathered the necessary components, I make spells/runes/essense and sell them directly to players:
Maybe you 've already noticed, some spells/runes/essence are very common and they cost 4s on the market, but some are VERY RARE, yet being the same level (all Apprentice III).
WHY? because the common ones takes a scholar level 10 and below to make, they take simple and cheap components. The other skills are 11+ (for expample, Blaze, Essense of shoulder charge, Rune of shadow) and they take the afformentioned interdependent componets to make.
The essence of shoudler charge takes 1 iron gaul ink, 1 stroma wash, 1 larent suspeision and fuel to make, the cost will be somewhere around 3s.

THESE SKILLS YOU CAN MAKE A KILLING. Put them on the market for 15-25s per, just below the Adapt I skills. People will not buy them at first but once they realize they cannont find them anywhere, they will.

Another good way is to advertise (using /ooc, /auction) in the commonlands or antonica, where people are actively fighting and looting. They are more likely to buy your skills.

Do this consistently and you will net 3-5 gold easily per day, before the market catches on, you will be moving on to more advanced things, and reap the early market again.

Heroic Opportunities FAQ (Eq2 freeport)

August 27th, 2008

A detailed explanation of heroic opportunities below:

Opportunity Icons
Think of opportunity icons as the links in a chain, which ultimately band together and allow for a strong entity. When it comes to heroic opportunities, these icons represent the links, while the opportunity itself is the chain (I kicked some serious ass in the analogy section of my SAT test).

Any individual magical spell or combat art utlized in the heat of battle has a specific icon associated with that skill. During combat these icons will flash on screen when you have started a combination of attack maneuvers which allows you to begin building this "chain", when properly executed you can trigger a heroic opportunity, causing great harm to your opponent, or an opportunity which greatly benefits your group!

There are 4 specific types of icons, one for each archetype.

Fighter (blue)
Sword
Shield
Horn
Fist
Boot
Flexed arm

Priest (gold)
Chalice
Holy Symbol
Hammer
Eye
Moon
Druidic Stones

Scout (green)
Dagger
Bow
Mask
Lock
Cloak
Coin

Mage (red)
Wand
Lightning
Tome
Staff
Fire
Star

A sequence of icons represented on screen will guide you in completing a heroic opportunity. This icon sequence appears in the lower right hand corner of your screen during combat.

Beginning a starter chain
To trigger a heroic opportunity chain, you will need to start off the chain with one of the following skills for each specific race:

Fighter - Fighting Chance
Scout - Lucky Break
Mage - Arcane Augur
Priest - Divine Providence

- None of these abilities drain mana or power, and are cast immediately. However, there is a 10 second delay between each cast making heroic opportunities extremely difficult to pull of more than once in any one combat sitting.

After casting this initial spell or initiating the specific combat skill, an icon of that specific skill will appear on yoru screen, followed by other icons you'll need to use to continue the chain. If you don't possess the next icon, you simply aren't ready to complete the heroic opportunity……..or you may need to be in a group with another partner who happens to possess that ability.

That being said even in the early stages of the game, even on the Island of Refuge there are heroic opportunities which can be pulled off solo, or in a group. So keep tinkering around a bit and you'll find some devastating combos allowing you to drop high level opponents with ease.

Advancing the Starter Chain

When you have initially begun a chain, any misuse of the next skill will break the chain, resulting in a failed opportunity. This holds true when soloing, or in a group. So if you successfully launch an initial attack which begins the chain, ensure you communicate to other members in your group to launch the next spell which lengthens the chain. Misuse of specific skills at this stage can break the starter chain. In a group, a keymashing "newbie" can be quite a hinderance to success. Coordination and communication are key to successully executing these initial "starter" chains.

Completing a Starter Chain

Once you've fully "built" the chain in a heroic opportunity, the initial caster and/or group is presented with an option from which to launch the opportunity. A list will appear on screen allowing you to choose which opportunity you'd like to launch a common, uncommon or rare opportunity.

Completing an Opportunity of Heroic Stature

After initially launching a heroic opportunity chain, the next link in the chain, or "icon" will flash for 30 seconds. During this period you, or any member of your group who uses this skill will advance the chain.

Using an incorrect skill will not completely cancel the opportunity, however you do have a time limit in which you MUST use the next skill in the chain……30 seconds. If a specific link is not added during this period the entire opportunity will vanish, and you will need to start again.

"Shifting" a Heroic Opportunity

Each successfully built opportunity has the ability to be "shifted" to another type of opportunity. Each opportunity has a specific "shift" icon associated with it: the coin. Scouts may use combat arts with that specific "coin" symbol, which allows them to shift the current chain to a different heroic opportunity.

Isle Of Refuge - High Chieftain Kryx - Great Loots (EQ2 Heritage Quests)

August 22nd, 2008

Before leaving the Island of Refuge, make sure you head up the High Chieftain's tree and take out his posse and Kryx himself.

After killing Kryx you receive a treasure chest full of goodies. Namely, a Gruttooth Circlet, an Iodizite Shell Shield, and a tome of the Artisan Merchant's Armor Volume 7.

I was able to solo these guys rather easily being maxed out on the island, and with ranged attacks as a mage. Not recommended for anyone under level 6.

If you're a mage, a good strategy to use solo is to immediately target Kryx and cast Arcane Bindings on him followed by a quick Static Pulse. This will keep him locked down for a bit while you focus on his minions. Ensure to use the Heroic Opportunity Granted to you at this level (Cast Arcane Augur, Followed by two Lightning Bursts). This will help you kill his helpers quickly, and leave plenty of energy to spare when taking out Kryx himself.

The best part about this, is after killing this little tribe, if you run all the way to the top of the incline just around the corner from their spawn spot you can repeat it all over again. Attempting to confirm if the same drops can be acquired multiple times. Will update within 15 minutes.

Expand your Storage abilities crafting fans! (Eq2 forums)

August 20th, 2008

Been crafting all night and nowhere to put all that Merchant fodder? You are in luck friend! I have just the solution for you! Increase your storage by 392 slots! That right I said 392 SLOTS!!!

NO WAY!!!!…… YES WAY FRIEND and let me tell you how!

Simply create an alternate toon (that's a character you don't plan on playing son, keep up) and move over 14 Pristine Sandalwood Strongbox's thru the shared banking system and there you have it (8 bank box's and 6 box's on the alternate toon. Make it 5 alternate toons and you have a whopping 1960 extra slots!!

Nothing but pure storage limited only by the type subscription you have, meaning the people with a Station Pass get up to 10 characters they can create (I think it is) and people without get 6 (I think it is).

This does not allow you to move items from your FreePort character to a alternate in Qeynos so remember that the alternate you created that is FreePort based (tells you this info. when your making your character) will only have access to items from a FreePort shared bank.

Ok yes I know this is not new info. and has been like this since day one however it isn't posted anywhere on this forum that search could find. Also I have told about 10 people in game about this over the last few days to see if it was common knowledge and they were all excited to find this out so it doesn't appear it is 'common knowledge'.

So I am submitting this knowledge not as a Bug or Hack or anything but maybe as a guide for new members interested in crafting explaining how they can store more of their crafted items while waiting for space to free up on their merchants.

What you ask could drive me to giving up such INSANE information?

Well I am glad you asked, I am shooting for another account.

Easy Leveling for EQ2 Outfitter (Everquest 2 ui)

August 15th, 2008

I just realized a great little trick to level and make a little coin for outfitters. once you get lvl 10 get the book and scribe it to get iron bars. I used the ultimate macro on this site and made 100 bars. after that i had made lvl 11 and got some more recipe's. i switch up from making iron rings and sheets with the crafted bars. in 2 nights of macroing i made it from 10 to almost 16. and made some nice coin.

You can do this with however many i prefer doing it 100 at a time

To do this buy 20 iron for under 10cp. comes out to 2sp. To make sure you have enough materials to craft the bars fully you will need 1 coal to make the bar and 1 coal to make the irons sheet, crossgard, etc. it is the same for the eiolth temper. 1 for bar and 1 for final. so buy 2 stacks of coal and 2 stacks of eiolth temper from merch in tradeskill instance. this comes out to 12sp.

coal = 6cp

eiolth tempre = 24cp

Iron = 5-10cp

So…6×20= 1sp20cp, 24×20= 4sp 80cp totrals to 6sp per stack timers 2 for final =12

This will net you 20sp a profit of 8 sp while making some serious exp. like i said i have made 1gp and 4 levels in 2 nights. not bad while i am sleeping. Ok, well hope this helps.
